What is Songs of Glimmerwick?

Songs of Glimmerwick is a story-driven witch academy RPG from Eastshade Studios, the developer of the 2019 painting adventure Eastshade, released on Steam for Windows on September 30, 2026 after eight years in development. You play a witch from a village where music was banned who arrives on the island of Glimmerwick already enrolled in its university of magic, where casting a spell is as easy as playing a song.

Magic is entirely musical: every spell is a short rhythm chart played on your flute, a minimum score learns it and higher scores make it stronger. The life-sim loop around it covers attending classes by letter, restoring the university botanical garden as your campus job, brewing potions through an ingredient-sorting minigame, rhythm-based fishing, and festivals and curses across a year of seasons. The clock freezes for every scheduled event, so nothing can be missed.

The store page and community hub document 34 Steam achievements, full controller support, Steam Cloud and eight languages with English full audio. A free demo covering the opening arc stays available, and the developers have been direct that there is no player romance in the game — friendships and story relationships, including same-sex couples, fill that space instead.

FAQ

Answers use only sourced facts; unverified items are marked.

What is Songs of Glimmerwick?
A story-driven witch academy RPG from Eastshade Studios, released on Steam for Windows on September 30, 2026. You attend a magic university on the island of Glimmerwick where spells are cast by playing songs on a flute, alongside garden work, potions, fishing and a calendar of festivals.
How much does Songs of Glimmerwick cost?
The Steam list price is $24.99 and the game launched with a 10% discount to $22.49 for the first two weeks. It is single-player, Windows-only, and a free demo covering the opening arc is also on the store page.
Does Songs of Glimmerwick have romance?
No player romance. The developers stated during development that there would be no player romance, only story relationships — including same-sex relationships — and the launch materials pitch friendships with classmates and townsfolk rather than dating.
How does magic work in Songs of Glimmerwick?
Every spell is a short rhythm chart played on your flute. Scoring a minimum learns the spell so it can be cast without replaying the song, higher scores improve its impact, and casting drains mana that a snack restores. The classroom practice chambers slow time so you can drill songs freely.
